Exercise
The First Step Out of Chaos
Exercise is one of the most visible and most misunderstood aspects of dog care. It is often given as a generic recommendation, not one based on the individual dog: “Walk your dog more.” But a young, high-energy working breed needs a vastly different level of activity than an older dog with joint pain.
When exercise is mismatched, the consequences appear quickly. Insufficient or inappropriate activity contributes to obesity, which now affects approximately 35 percent of dogs.₃ Beyond physical health, inadequate exercise also impacts behavior, often manifesting as restlessness, anxiety, or destructive tendencies. Owners frequently hear, “He’s just being a dog,” when the real issue is unmet physical and mental needs that the current model rarely connects or addresses together.
